To ensure a fair and transparent user experience, platforms should provide a **robust mechanism for users to appeal content moderation decisions.**

Nima enables appeals through a **built-in appeal form**, accessible through [User Notifications](docId\:W0MAOkseOM2Vh13OJ4qY4) sent via email or through the Enforcement Portal when users don't have email access.

The appeal form is accessible at `[tenant].your-nima-tremau-space/appeal/content_id` with the specific content ID associated, making each link unique to the moderation decision being appealed.

Nima handles the reporting and management of appealed cases as detailed below.

### The appeal process via email notifications

Upon an action taken on content, both the reporter (in case of a user report) and the reported account (owner of the content) receive an email notification, as detailed in [User Notifications](docId\:W0MAOkseOM2Vh13OJ4qY4). This email includes an appeal button with a direct link to the Nima appeal form, **where users can appeal only the specific content referenced in that notification**. Users can submit their appeal by providing:

- **Reason for Appeal:** Explanation of why they believe the decision was incorrect -
- **Supporting Evidence:** Additional context or documentation to substantiate their claim
- **Electronic Signature:** Required field to certify their submission
- **Additional information**

### Where to find appeals in Nima

In Nima, appeals are sorted in the **Appeal tab** of the Moderation Dashboard and automatically routed to the original queue with the following logic:

- If the initial decision was taken by a human moderator, the appeal goes under the same queue in the Appeal tab.
- If the decision was triggered by automated moderation, the appeal goes to the queue indicated in the configuration of the rule that triggered the automated decision.

As with first-time moderation (detailed in [Queues](docId\:AzSiicK6eEHFlzwytQL-V) and [Being a Moderator](docId\:FrrSCGvmivFmhrebSD36s) sections), moderators can access appeals through either the List View or the [Moderation Console](docId\:angNOc-xKyTjfGHpYHxmZ). In both cases, **they see the full context** including the initial action applied, whether the appeal came from the reporter or the Reported Account, the appeal date, and all original case details.

The most recent action taken - including Revert actions - is displayed alongside the full action history, giving moderators a clearer view of what has happened to each case.

In this context, moderators can select **actions** on appeals from those that have been configured in [Queues](docId\:AzSiicK6eEHFlzwytQL-V). By default, Nima has "Maintain Decision" enabled as a post-appeal action option.

When reviewing an appeal against a **No Policy Violation** original decision, the moderator is presented with a dedicated pop-up to select the applicable policy after selecting an action, so that a **Policy Violation** is logged against the given case too.
:::

When a moderator takes a post-appeal action, **your platform receives the webhook assigned to that moderation action**, allowing you to implement the decision's effects on your platform (e.g., restoring content, maintaining restrictions, applying new actions).

While reviewing an appeal, moderators can also use **Request Information** to ask the reporter or reported account for more detail, with responses appearing as a chat thread on the case — the same unified experience available in the report console.

### Notifying users of appeal outcomes

To inform users of appeal outcomes, configure email notifications in [User Notifications](docId\:W0MAOkseOM2Vh13OJ4qY4) for the "Appeal Decision" trigger. Note the following notification logic:

- The **reported account** is informed of any decisions taken on their content, regardless of who submitted the appeal
- The **reporter** is informed only of decisions taken on appeals they submitted

These appeal outcome communications are also recorded in the account's communications log in the **Account View**, alongside the original Statement of Reasons.

### Enforcement portal

The Enforcement Portal is built for platforms that do not have email capabilities or want to provide users with a **centralized view of all enforcement actions taken on their content.** Through this portal, users can:

- View a complete history of all moderation decisions affecting their content
- Initiate appeals directly from the portal
- Track the status and details of their submitted appeals

The portal is accessible through a **unique link generated for each user**, ensuring secure and personalized access to their enforcement history. Contact the Tremau team to understand how to integrate the portal.

**The portal URL uses your configured client subdomain when available, enabling a fully white-labeled experience.** If you have configured a custom subdomain (e.g., `trust.yourplatform.com`), the enforcement portal links will use this domain instead of the default Nima domain.
